Default Help: replacing radiator in 2000 1500. Got a couple of questions

Hi guys! Long story short, ive got a leak in the radiator, so im going to buy and install a new one.

Here are my questions:

1. Anybody know of a fairly reputable/reliable radiator that is relatively cost effective ($100-150?)

2. I had read that I need a disconnect tool for the tranny cooler...How do I go about doing this...will I absolutely NEED the disconnect tool?

3. How do I get to the top driver side bold holding the fan shroud in place off? The wiper fluid resivoir is obstructing entrance of my wrench/wratchet.

4. Any other things I should know before diving in? I am by no means a mechanic but I have a general know how of how to use a wrench and a set of vice grips .

Thanks guys!

Grab the Factory Service Manual out of the forum's FAQ/DIY section and all but the first question will be mostly answered. Yes, you do absolutely need that disconnect tool.

While you're there, you really should do the "check valve delete" mod that's also in the FAQ/DIY section. It might just save your transmission's life. I always recommend installing a remote ATF filter in place of the check valve because it (a) keeps the friction material, metal fines, and sludge from ever getting as far as the cooler, not to mention the internal transmission filter, and (b) brings a check valve back into the equation, one that is far less likely to plug up and kill the transmission and is also easily replaced.

Ok due to some unforseen technological issues my computer isnt downloading the repair manual. Im just trying to get accustomed to what Im going to have to do to get the job done this weekend.

Is there some trick to removing this windshield washer resivoir? There is obviously some tab or something that I am missing, cause it doesnt want to come out.

The disconnect tool can be bought at Autozone or the like. The washer fluid bottle is held by a tab on the inside. Just pull it straight up. It may be a little difficult but itll come out.

Try putting a screwdriver or small prybar inbetween the bottle and shroud to separate them a little and pull up on the bottle.

With women there is no simple way. Only her way.
