Default engine swap questions 318 to the 360

I'm helping my friend with his 96 ram sport with the 318 and he spun a barring in it. So we are going to pull a engine out of his 95 ram with the 360. So here are some of my questions. I know the engines are almost the same just some differnt inturnals.

1. what do we need to do sencer wise to the older engine to the newer truck? do we have to swap all the sencors from the newer engine to the older one or doesn't matter?

2. where are the best lift points on the engines to pull them with the trannys so nothing breaks?

3. will the 95 360 run with the wiring from the 318 and ecu?

4. what tranny should we use with the 360 the tranny thats behind it now or the 318 tranny or are they the same?

5. anything else that would help us out with this swap would be great

When pulling something so heavy, I usually wrap a thick strap (like a heavy tow strap) around then entire engine. Just because I have a wild imagination, I also run a chain (slightly looser than the strap) around the assembly as a backup. Im sure somebody will say to bolt it somewhere, but I feel that when you have a fully dressed engine mated to the trans and possibly t-case, the weight should be distributed over as much surface area as possible. Run it behind the oil pan and in front of the bellhousing, that way it has a nice notch that it cant work its way out of.

I pulled and installed my motor and tranny as one with a 2 ton cherry picker and I can tell you that you nerd the chain bolted on the front of one head and the back of the other head. The reason for this is it will have to go in and out at an extreme angle unless you want to remove the core support. I was able to do it by myself but was a bit of a PITA. Took me about 5 hrs to pull, unbolt motor, bolt new motor to tranny, and drop back in place.

A few things I will sugget doing is changing the plenum plate, water pump, timing chain, and thrrmostat before installing in truck. WHen you have the thermostat housing off be sure to cut the little tab on it off. It will make it a whole lot easier to change later shoukd it go bad.

With all that being said if both trannys are 46res then the only difference is torque converter and flexplate. Make sure to use the 360 torque converter and flexplate. All your sensors shoukd be the same if it is obd1. Throttle cable on the 96 may have a different end on the TB than the 95. I know for a fact that the 94-95 is a diffrent style, with a old school ball on the end and the rest have a plastic snap on the end just like the tranny kick down cable. You will want the 360 Ecu otherwise kit will more than likely run lean, at least at anything but WOT.

I swapped out a 360 for a 318 and have a thread on it somewhere hear. It shoukd have some useful info for you. Try searching for motor swap project.
