Default Audio question???

I have a 98 Ram that the speakers just quit working on. I thought it might be the after market stereo I had installed but after removing/replacing it , I still had no sound. Is there some fuse or something that could be blown. According to my owners manual there is not anything between the radio and the speakers. Also; and I dont know if this could be related, but the cruise quit working about the time the front speakers went out. Oh yea the front speakers stopped working prior to the back. The back speakers quit about a month latter. I have checked the connections to the speakers and found nothing out amiss. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks; Kugelspritzer.

is there stock amp? maybe the aftermarket stereo burned out... sounds funny but take it out and smell the deck..if you smell like a burnt smell then the internal amp inside might have burned up... did you have the speakers wired up 2 or 4 ohm? meaning each speaker had its own channel or did you "bridge" the front and rears? sounds like you might have if your fronts went at the same time and then your rears at the same time together... did you use an aftermarket wire harnes or just cut the factory and wired it from the deck harness? i install stereos and fix broken ones and guys always bring me there cars and stuff goes wrong and i pull the deck and i see bare wires just hanging all over the place...drives me nuts!!!! also sometimes doing mods or aftermarket stuff... i catch dudes cutting the wires on accident and come to find out its wiring for the radio... are the speaker wires ran directely from the speakers to the deck or did you use the factory wiring? the factory wiring is CRAP .. i always suggest running new wires no matter what.... lemme know more details so i can help out further!!!

Shott; I used the factory wiring, but I did connect the + to the + and the - to the -, so I dont think it is some kind of reverse polarity or anything. I dont know if this is related or not, but around the time thefront spkrs. stopped working, the cruise control also quit. I think the cruise is (maybe) a vacuum leak, because the other day I noticed with the a/c on, if you accelerate, the air switches to the defroster. Once you let off it comes back through the a/c vents.

Thanks in advance for any help; Kugelspritzer.

On my 97 Ram, the cruise quit working and the air vent would do just as you described. It was a vacuum leak. I found mine right under the battery tray. There was a 90 degree bend right in a tight spot, it was broken in that elbow. how this helps.

Default RE: Audio question???

Latest update on audio problem. Replaced all speaker wires,(pain in the butt). Still no sound. I had been using one of those Ezy wiring hook ups, to match the OEM connectors. so I thought screw this and removed that from the equation. Now I have new wires from the speakers, direct hook up to the OEM power supply harness,(all soldered), and still no sound. I thought maybe the speakers are not compatable(4and 8 ohm mixed) so I disconnected the rear skrs. still nothing. (Now I am realy scratching my ***) So I pulled the stereo out and connected it directly to the batt. and a spkr. guess what? It worked. I got so frustrated I just walked away to keep from beating the crap out of something. Please help solve this mystery....[:@][:@][:@]

Default RE: Audio question???

I went back to the shop this afternoon and ran a jumper straight from the batt. checked all the channels with one spkr. and they all worked. I then proceeded to put quick connect plugs on all of the spkr wires. Plugged them all up, and guess what... Nothing. I disconected the front spkrs. to see if that might help...Nothing. Did the same to the rear,...nothing. Therefore I (although I find it hard to beleave) have determined it must be the engine... No just kidding. It must be the stereo. I hope.

Any help would be appreciated.

.
Interesting... please let us know what you find out. I just got a Sony aftermarket deck for the Ram for my Birthday, so I'll be doing the swap soon, and will be using one of those easy wiring connectors too.

wow you really screwed something up. are you still running the stock power supply wires to the stereo? sounds like you've got some bad wires somewhere between the battery/alternator and your stereo. if it's getting power then i agree it's probably the internal amp in the deck. did the speakers work at all with the new deck? i put in a sony xplod 5500 couple months ago with stock speakers (sad i know still working on that one) hooked up two infinity 10's and a kenwood 8152D amp. works like a champ.

After much frustration I found out that the right front speaker had been blown,(son had borrowed truck) and that had caused the stereo to burn out the Right front and rear channels. When I questioned him , naturaly he knew nothing about it. Oh yea the cruise control problem was just what cnewt15 suggeted. Thanks for all the input.
