OK, I went and took the rear cover off the "busted" transfer case and found the snap ring HAD NOT moved!! It was still locked in the groove unless there was some way when it went to hell that it magically re-seated itself. Any other ideas? I wish it had been the snap ring, then I would have had an easy fix................

how many miles on it? any fluid left? What do the bearings look like? Check the cracks, the parting surface should be rough, and shiny, if it is dull, or slightly smoothed, that would suggest it has been cracked for some time. It may have broken previously, but, hung together until just lately.....

HeyYou, check my first post..(pics)..it's disintegrated....there was fluid all over the road where it busted and went to hell! The second pic is of the replacement t-case and where it busted the transmission/ transfer case adapter housing.

I am not 100% positive about this yet but I am sure it's auto tranny related, it is not downshifting right, not releasing, this is tearing out the t cases were they join the tranny. I don't have anymore info yet as the truck I was working on got traded in.

FWIW Your problems are gone when you got the Maga trany. Still use a T saver. I would love to give you supporting info but I can't at this time. I did talk to UU a little about this but I still need to dig deeper on this trany thing.

Edit: I don't see any spline wear marks, don't see any busted seals, it was not leaking oil by the looks of things, can you move that t case shaft back and forth in the housing? If I remember you still had the c-clip in place right. Can you post a pix of the front of the t case from the side please, I would like to see that input coupler/shaft.

dlyter09,
Looking at the bottom right of the first pic, and to top of the second pic, it seems like the housing was already cracked for some time before it let go.
See how the broken casting in those areas are dark/dirty, whereas the fresh break is clean and shiny.
