97 ram 1500 5.9 magnum. I recently regeared to 4.56 and this is when the problem became noticeable. When im driving along, all of a sudden the truck will jump. Feels like the torque converter locking and unlocking very quickly. It only does it once. It does it on overdrive mostly. One time going up a hill in second and then earlier today shifting between 2nd and third. Its not a vibration or miss. What id describe it as is if the ignition coil lost power and then was plugged back in..or another gear. I do have msd and an accel coil on it. Been on 2 years and never given a problem. It feels like the jump is coming from the transmission. Keep in mind it only does in once and not again for like 10 miles.
Yeah it pulls like a scalded dog running on about 6 cylinders . Hahaha rings are going. I've got a brand new 5.9 sitting in the garage waiting for the cam.
believe it or not, with the accel coil, I did notice the truck having more power and idle way smoother. It sounds plausible that it's going out. Its just like bam and them doesn't jerk again.
I would just put a stock coil on it and make sure the other ignition stuff is up to snuff. If your original coil was kinda iffy when you installed the Accel, that would be why you felt a performance increase.
Yeah it had alot of miles on it before I did it. I've probably got 60k on the accel. My buddy's msd box took a crap on his 92 ram and took the coil with it. But you say there's no power increase from stock to aftermarket coil?
I have no personal experience with it, however, there have been many members on here that have stated that the Accel coil really isn't necessary until you start pushing some serious air and fuel down it's throat. The stock coil work just fine for a stock or mostly stock engine.
