You can also upgrade the brakes on your 1500 with 2500 parts... But a cummins is always a better choice if you can afford it.

i got dual piston calipers on mine. no need to upgrade!

Get a Cummins if you can afford it like all the other guys are saying. If ya really want to keep the gasser, then you CAN upgrade various things to make it handle the weight better. In our case, we hauled 15K on our 1/2 ton, however that was with brakes on BOTH trailer axles, and the engine struggled a little on the hills to keep up. Definately upgrade suspension on the gasser if you keep it.
