Newby here, 2001 1500 Off-Road, 360/auto. engine light appeared, P0455 and P0442. Sez that is Evaporative Emission Control System Leak, Lg/Sm. Whats my next step for repair as I have no idea what that is, Thanks fellars
Make sure your gas cap is still on, if yes then go get a smoke test done at a shop...that's the fastest and surest way to pin down the leak. Smoket tests usually arent too expensive either, maybe 50-70 bucks. Without a smoke test, its usually a guessing game as to which component is leaking. Someone else may have some pointers on common failure points with the rams
Thank you sir. Yes cap is on, Previous owner said truck showed that around 100k, shop replaced gas cap. I am 2nd owner, truck has 189k, no aftermarket at all.
Ok then i wouldn't be inclined to think the cap is the problem. With that many miles, things just wear out, dry rot, etc. Be sure when you ask for a smoke test that you tell them you DO NOT want the code read. Some places will try to read the code and then charge you for that service too. Just ask them for a smoke test and location of the leak.
Any parts store cap will be fine.. If that doesnt do it for you go ahead for the smoke test... Some places can be expensive though depending on the shop.. I got lucky and got one for free
Good news for you. LOL Wont happen for me, tho. Will try cap,if not, Smoke test. Thanks guys. Skulkt around here a few days b4 joining up, Great Group here
