I'm looking to possibly put a lift kit on my 1998 ram 1500 but not completely sure, which brand, what size or anything. Not due to a lack of knowledge but the pros and cons of each, along with other determining factors.

Factor 1: I definitely need a new suspension, mainly shocks. I was interested in Rancho brand shocks, but not sure if they would support a lift kit.
Factor 2: I want a lift kit for the occasional off-road fun, and bigger tires. Where I live off-roading is extremely risky, but going camping is a different story. I would say I would go offroading possibly a couple times a month, if that.
Factor 3: I want to do everything right, absolutely NO shortcuts, but price is an issue.
Factor 4: I will not go anymore than 3 inches of lift. I know there are others things involved I'm not sure that I'm ready to get into, due to I want to do this the right way.
Factor 5: I still want to have the capability of my truck now, and not a complete off-road animal, and especially not have to worry about replacing parts in the next couple years. It does have 111k on it and is 14 years old now.
Factor 6: With the stock height and way it is now, I am only limited to 265/75/r16s, at a 30inch height. I would love to get bigger tires, but without a spacer, anyone know an alternate to this?
Factor 7: I'm still thinking about just saying the hell with it, and just getting new stock ride height shocks and some beefy tires. (Goodyear Silent Armor) But at the same token, a higher suspension, along with bigger tires would look bas *** and help me in the mud. So, what I'm asking, to try and get as many opinions on this as possible, anyone and everyone is welcome to share their thoughts. Thanks Dean.

Thanks for the quick response, but I already looked into that, I'm not sure exactly how I feel about rough country, reliability wise, and I would also really want rancho shocks, as well as what else would entail doing a lift the right way such as moving the axel back, and messing with drive shaft angles and such.

 

Do you have a 1500 Sport or Laramie?

 

larmie and from my under standing you don't need to adjust angle until 5 plus inches

Wow, I have the same truck then. a buddy of mine has those tires and rubs like crazy in the front.

 

look at my photos you can see them on there they never rub my neighbor has the same truck with the same tire size also with no problems

You are on a budget so just get yourself a leveling kit.. 2.5 inches should be good. Then throw an add a leaf in the back.. no issues with that. I believe with that setup I could run 35's with little to no issues.

 

Nothing wrong with a good ole fashioned 3" body lift either. And they're cheap.
