ReadRam: I dont think its skipping second altogether.

I drove around a bit more today and some of the things in my original post aren't true after the TPS change. Here is what is going on now...
Light gas from a stop, shifts through all gears like normal, no extra or double shift. Accelerate away (not WOT or anything just quick) and it will jump the 200 rpms after the shift to second all other gears shift fine. Step on it from a stop and it jumps around 500rpm after the second shift. I am still thinking TV adjustment, did know if that changed anybody's ideas with the new info....

Mibzzer15 - Interesting that your truck does this as well, I have about the same mileage as you list on my engine and transmission. Have you tried anything to correct it?

Cheers guys thanks!

Haven't actually tried any corrections yet...I am going to talk to my boss tomorrow and see what he thinks...(I am a mechanic but just a beginner kid here...straight out of high school auto shop to a independent shop so I am learning as I go through.)

TV cable out of adjustment would affect all shift points,to a degree, not just 2nd. Being it's always 2nd gear...maybe it's slipping...I can say when my red 99 ram began not wanting to shift into 2nd without feathering the pedal and finally manually shifting, that the 2nd band was pretty much gone. I would be inclined to drop pan and have bands adjusted/ inspected by someone who knows what's what.

Just back from the tansmission shop... They are saying that the truck is shifting into 2nd but not staying there long until it shifts into 3rd. The rpm flare is in 3rd gear. They wanted $500 bones to get started to "figure" out whats wrong, I said no thanks lol... I still havent dropped the pan yet as I wanted to get out of there with my life savings intact lol...
Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Drop the pan, inspect for things that shouldn't be there. Change the fluid, filter, and adjust the bands. Drive. See if that doesn't improve it's attitude any.

Just curiouis, did they hook up a good scanner and test drive with you. A good one will give live data on pressure and sensor activity and they should be able to pinpoint problem to more degree of accuracy. and a pretty close quote. Of course there can always be a surprise. Even if you don't have good shop do the work , you will have better idea for diying yourself. Just an idea. I mean 'give us 500.00 and we'll take look around " doesn't seem very professional.
