Default 1995 Ram 318 2wd AT Shifting problems

Looking at buying a 95 ram that is having transmission problems. Truck has awesome body, interior, and it runs like a raped ape. It shifts fine for a while then all of a sudden it starts slipping and erratically shifting. I can stop, shut off the truck and wait a minute or two and start it back up and it will shift fine again, few minutes later does the same crazy shifting.

Has anyone experienced this before and what did you find as the solution? It seems like I remember a buddy of mine had one with the same issues and everyone told him he needed a rebuild on the tranny until one shop told him no it didnt need a rebuild. They fixed him up for under $500. If only I could remember what the hell it was.

I ordered auto enginuity software for my ford powerstrokes and was wondering if the AE software will work with the 95. I did not look to see if it had OBD2 plug or not. If it will I will go ahead and purchase the Chrysler software.

Anyone with hints, tips or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Im new to the site and new to dodges. Saw this truck and fell in love, just dont want to spend a fortune fixing it. I want to spend a fortune customizing it. Guy said he'd take $600 for it.

Thanks

Will

'95 is OBD1
Check that the TV cable is properly adjusted. Out of adjustment can lead to erratic shifts. Slippage is usually bands too loose,or worn out, or worn out clutch packs.
You didn't say how many miles are on it, but a '95 probably has enough that it either needs a trans. rebuild or is getting close to it.

Low fluid could be another contributor. Have to check the fluid in Neutral, won't get an accurate reading in Park. (artificially high....)
