Default Tire questions

Hello there I own a 1996 dodge ram 1500 Laramie SLT I recently bought my truck in October from a family friend and was told it will need some new tires...now I am a Mechanic so naturally I blew it off well when winter came around I was starting to notice I was having a slow leak on my Driver side tire well now I am currently able to afford some new tires but I have hit a snag with it...I use my truck for mostly highway and city driving but I do also use it for pulling cars out of snow mud and ditches and at times I do go off road (sorta) and I was wondering what would be the best suited tires for this kind of truck use....I know I know im a mechanic I should know this stuff but im a diesel mechanic so I see things from a big semi or medium duty diesel trucks point of view any tips would be great thanks!

I don't have an answer for you but you should start reading here:

Tire Brands
Tire Sizes

Good info there, some will probably chime in later

Why not just get a decent set of All Terrains?

I've off-roaded in my 2wd with the Goodyear Tracker 2, cheapo tire, it did great. I've got Wrangler Authorities on there now, and they're great, pricey though.

goodyear wrangler duratracs are a great tire. got about 30k on my tires, and they still have plenty of tread on them.

well also my other concern was for snow because I do use my truck for plowing but seeing as Chicago didn't get any snow I am looking more towards the off road tires because when spring comes around I like to get it muddy lol

Good set of All Terrains should go pretty good in the snow.

The Authorities I have are snow rated, and the DuraTrac's redneck has should be too.

Hands down my favorite tire is the Cooper STT awesome in snow, great ride on the hwy, not loud, wear well for a M/T tire, not a squishy tire at speed.

duratracs are indeed rated for snow. theyre even studdable! i plow with my truck too, and these tires are hands down the best tire ive ever seen in the snow. obviously a dedicated mud terrain, will do good in the snow as well.

I can't comment on the DuraTrac as I have not used them, but I can say lot's of trucks up here do use them and I have never heard a complaint, lots of 2500's 3500's. I would think the DruaTracs would be better on ice over the Coopers.
