Turns out to be an easy fix.

It was the ignition coil, one of the first parts we had tried. The theory is that it was so l flooded when a new one was installed that it wouldn't start either way. Since it was one of the only electrical parts that could be returned the good one was put back in the box and the bad one got reinstalled.

Go figure.

The oil had to be changed too. A lot of gas was dumped into that thing.
