Default rear axle swap

I've got a 2000 ram 1500 that needs a new rear axle. Was wondering if its possible to swap the rear axle from a 2002 ram 1500 into it. Any info would be very much appreciated

If the rear is a Chrysler 9.25", then yes it will swap.

Welcome to DF. Do some searching about and you'll find some slight differences to be aware of, like the VSS (speed sensor) over the years. 2000-02 should be the same, but don't quote me on that.

Right, but didn't some 02 have 2nd gen parts like the magnum drivetrain (magnum, 46re, etc.)? Or was 01 the partial change?

From what I've found it is the 9.25 rear.

http://www.mopar.com/dodge/ram-1500/...0254/129/3509/

Even the Quad Cab 4wd lists the 9.25

2002 2500/3500 was still a 2nd gen with 360 engine, 46re, d60, etc.
but i don't know anything about the 2002 1500.

Where's drewactual when you need him?

I didn't think the Hemi was around till the '03 model, so the '02 got the 5.9L 360, at least for V8's...

I think they actually discontinued the 360s but kept the 318s for a while but im not sure. I know of a lot of early third gens with 318s but no 360s

I also think the 9.25(or some variant of it) was used up until rather recently. But i really dont know for sure either

there were 5.9L 360's and 8.0L V10's put in the early 3rd gens so id assume that the drivetrain's were similar to the 2nd gens until the hemi rolled around

Well I hope they are the same. The limited slip in the 2000 is shot and I have no knowledge in replaceing it and the rear axle from the 2002 is easy to get if it bolts in
