Truck stutters shakes and pops when pressing accelerator
Also, try lifting the hood on in while its as dark of a place as you can find. Fire it up. I expect you may seem some spark coming from your old plug wires. You may have already changed them, being as you said you did a "quick basic tune up," but if not, give that a look.
Great news and since i never followed up this post, im going to now.
I started with changing the o2 sensor pre cat since it still had the stock one anyways and needed to be changed. Old sensor had a black tip and i drove the truck right after.
This still did not solve my popping fluttering thing that was happening so i moved on to distributor cap, plug wires, and rotor.
Well as soon as i stepped on the pedal i noticed a HUGE increase in power and no more popping and stuttering.
However, my mpg's are still pretty low at around 11-12 half freeway half city. I never did change the pcv valve so im hoping that can help a little.
The truck still feels like it should be faster but for now the truck is actually driveable and not misfiring and shutting off.

I have a Ram 1500, 2001, 5.2L. When I hit the accelerator it makes this pop like it is missing but not when i get up in speed and floor it. It can hardly take off right unless i do. I did a tune up, wires, plugs, rotors, new distributor cap, cleaned it all re checked to see if all plugs and wires were right and still is doing the same thing. My mechanic is just throwing b.s. stuff at me. Any thoughts?
This coming week im set to put in my ram 2001 1500 the following:
Distributor cap & rotor, 195 thermostat going from a 180 just to stick to stock, and a front denso oxygen sensor.
Right now even without these changes i have NO service engine light or codes.
However right now when ever i get to 40mph and i press the accelerator it starts popping under the hood like air sucking/popping, also the trucks seems to stutter/ hesitate/shake instantly when i step on the accelerator and stops when i let go and continues when i press it in sync basically.
What can cause this just in case everything i put in doesnt solve this. Im going to try to clean the iac and throttle body a little as well when im changing parts out.
Also the tune up has been done about a month ago consisting of motor and transmission oil change, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter.
Im getting mileage for city about 11 mpg if im lucky and driving properly, worst when i drive my normal heavy foot way. My truck is a mexican ramcharger which i think is heavier than the pickup since its an suv type.

Don't overlook the camshaft position sensor when you replace the cap and rotor - go ahead and swap it out at the same time.
Make sure your cap and rotor have BRASS contacts...Airtex/Wells sells good caps and rotors with brass for our trucks.
Good luck.
