axle crazy
I have a 1998 dodge 1500 4x4 5.2 . When I changed the u joint in the axle on the pass. side and started to put it back I looked down and there was a bushing lying there. It is about 1" long and has a flat on 1 end. ever since the bushing was left out there is a grinding sound like 2 gears grinding together.Where does this bushing go and how do I reinstall it?
Thanks for all the help bentd

there are 2 bushings in the passenger side axle. Both are in the CAD opening.
The larger one is a round doughnut with about 1.5 inch OD and 1.0 inch ID. it goes in the drivers side end of the cad to hold the inner axle in place.
the smaller one is a 2 step bushing. it goes between the inner and out axle and sits on the nub on the end of the outer axle. i'd guess this is the one that fell out. you need to pull your axle back out and reinstall or replace the bushing. you may need to remove the CAD to realign the axles, collar, etc.
