Default 97 ram 1500 trans ???

i have a 97 ram 1500 ss/t with a 5.9. It has 46re. I also have a 97 ram 1500 van with a 3.9. I'm not sure what trans is in it but my main question right now is i'm really hurting financially at least for a few more weeks so i wanted to know if i could use the van trans for my ram. At least just at least until i can afford the mega viper unit they are both 2wd and there both re units. I'm just not sure if the bolt patterns are the same any help would be greatly appreciated

It would probably bolt in, not sure if length is the same though.. but, unless you baby it, the 5.9 will make short work of it.....

im pretty sure the bolt pattern is different on the v6 engines. but even if it did bolt up, you wouldnt want to risk burning it up as the 3.9 has a different tranny than the 5.9

I think the 3.9 is just a 5.2 with two cylinders chopped off... bolt pattern should be the same.... I think.....

Should be a 42 or 44 R? Not designed to take a great deal of torque..... 5.9 would prolly kill it the second or third time you punched it.

Yea it is completely gone here's the problem I was having for the last four years I have had a whining noise from the trans it sounded like a bad hub bearing when you would let off the gas only so recently it became a grind and now it's knocking but I'm still driving for now if I turn off over drive it doesn't knock or grind but now it is starting to slip a little

Thanks for all of your help I think I am just gonna get a rent a car for a few weeks until I can afford the mega viper because I don't want it to lock up on me and at this point I don't think that it's worth double the work if the van trans wouldn't hold up for a few weeks then I would just be in the same boat and have to pull it again to put the mega viper in
