Default Low idle...

So I saw someone post that their idle is too high. I don't like how low mine is idling. Usually 500-600RPM. Any way to safely adjust this without modding the computer? I want it to idle no lower than 750RPM. It just doesn't seem to idle right when it idles any lower.

Have you looked into the IAC or TPS? Both work together along with the computer to control your idle based on things like temp and pressure.

500-600 is normal idle. Why do you want it to idle higher?

Replaced both. Also replaced MAP sensor. It seems to me that it should be idling higher according to the factory setting. It's idling at around 500-600RPM when COLD. Also replaced both O2 sensors. If I hold the accelerator to keep it at 750-1000RPM it idles really nice, wish it would stay there when cold.

Doesn't idle smooth and warms up faster if it would idle faster, also much of my operation requires lots of start stop under high torque, and I don't like having to feather the accelerator all the time.

Also the IAC keeps having to open all the way to keep the engine running when at cold idle, then it closes and the whole shebang happens again so it's hard when it's really cold to keep it idling, sometimes it will die. when the engine is warm it's not AS much of a problem.

Well after a little reading, it seems that my PCM coolant temp sensor may be to blame. I unplugged it some time ago as it ran WAAAY better without it THEN, but NOW it seems that the PCM isn't liking that anymore... So I'm off to replace that.

I'm wondering if I just need to get the PCM properly flashed as well.

Found this article on adjusting idle, think I am gonna run this truck with manual idle control as I can adjust it like I want then. Here's the link:

600RPM is the stock idle.

I don't like it either, so mine idles at 800, but I don't use a stock PCM.

if the tps and iac is working right, and there is nothing wrong with the engine, it should idle at about 1000 rpm when cold and 600 when warm, with a nice smooth transition between the 2. if it doesn't, first replace IAC and clean the port. if that doesn't fix it replace TPS.

the older models are said to have 2 temperature coolant sensors, one for the gauge and one for the pcm. i don't know if this is true or not, but if so, the pcm one might read incorrectly. i don't know how to test it without an expensive scanner, so you might just replace them next. there is also and IAT (intake air temp sensor) in the top of the intake, near the front. i've never replaced mine and don't know how to test it either.

I have yet to see one of these idle at 1000RPM cold. They just don't... I replaced the gauge temp sensor, but not the PCM one, I've got it just haven't gotten it in it. Haven't replaced the IAT yet, maybe I should.
