Oh I missed the cold vs warm part. Ignition timing issue would probably be all the time not just warm unless the ignition module is taking a sh*t. Advance Auto Parts can test ignition modules. If you have it tested, bring it in but warm it somehow just before the test. Fuel sounds more likely though. Fuel pressure test will help narrow that down. Bad regulator or worn pump could cause your issues.

That's what I'm thinking...I had Ford F150 that would do the same thing, turned out that once the pump got warm it would crap out.

Got a scanner? See what the PCM thinks engine temp, and intake air temp values are, when it starts running funny.

Most parts stores will scan your truck for free.

Well, that's if they have an OBDI scanner.

has anyone heard of the distributor being the problem. I was told there was a gear at the bottom of the distributor that can jump and be a problem and may have to be replaced ? Im taking it's not the one on the distributor but down in the engine

If the gear on the dist jumps a tooth, it needs to be replaced.... and you will have other issues besides. Not a likely occurrence. Have you unplugged the O2 sensor, to see if that makes a difference?

unplugged the 02 sensor this morning.. drove for 30 miles and still real crappy.. just now i could hold it full throttle and it just sits at a certain rpm and stutters and backfires out the exhaust.. i could hold it full throttle and it just sits there...

could it be the catalytic converter ???

at full stomp throttle in park it's sits at 3000 rpm... stuttering and backfiring out the exhaust... until i let off full throttle then it will go up... I can rev it up and down as long as it isn't full throttle.. so aggravated it didn't do this when i test drove it etc..
