I have this trouble of lack of power and a miss while at highway speeds, especially when in overdrive, I give it gas and it jerks and bucks. seems almost normal when I start off and give it the gas just some hesitation . I have tried injector cleaners but no good .There is a new tune up on it (plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc.)I'm thinking maybe the injectors or EGR , I have bought the injectors but have not put them in yet, but now I'm thinking EGR .how can I check this and where is it 1996 318 dodge ram .I think the tranduser is next to the last injectors on the drivers side, if I disconnect the wire will there be any change in the RPM if the valve is working right ? I have done this and no change in the RPM. also and may be related , I seems to have very little gas peddle before it wants to hit the detent position.this has been like this since I bought the truck new. and there has been a few times that on start up the engine was running on 7 cylinders and I get a check engine light , of which is missfire 7 .I restart it and it usually is fine ( running on 8 ) I just clear code . this may be the 7 injector, This has been a problem since brand new and dodge see nothing as when I drive it there for them to check out it has cleared and running OK. sounds like allott here and help will be apreciated .

thanks

Seems like it could be lots of things. Do you have a new coil too?

If your EGR was stuck open it would generally just run like crap. But I'm not to sure.

There is a test you can do for the EGR but you need a "good" diag computer for it. Most of the higher end ones have an option where you plug it in and it tells the PCM what to do. It goes through a whole bunch of tests and all you have to do is wait untill its done. Raises rmp, lowers it, does a WOT test, all kinds of stuff. It also checks the ERG, opens and closes it and stuff. If somethings wrong it will tell you at the end of the test.

But I'm also not sure if you can do it to Dodges. I had to do it to an early 90's tarus once and it quickly told me that the problem was the EGR. Sure enough, that fixed it.

MIne was doing something simular but not so severe. I had a intake belly pan leak. The give away wa two plugs were dark from oil and would use oil (not alot but a quart in 3000 miles). Check all your plugs if any are discolored look in the throttle body and see if your pan looks dark from oil stain. BTW I put in new bosh plat's and that made it worse went back to autolite and ran better guess they are more oil resitant.

did you check your fuel psi while under a load, you could have a fuel pump going bad. it easy and quick to check.
