4WD Light On

4WD Light On
just purchased this truck (96 Ram 1500 4X4) the other day...tested the 4X4 before buying, workked as advertised. Now only a few days later, the 4X4 light is now stuck ON after engaging 4WD and will not turn off. I made sure it was out of 4WD by making slow left/right turns. In 2WD it doesn't "hop" or "jerk" like it does when in 4WD. I disconnected the indicator wire ...and removed the indicator, then reconnected the plug. Had my son check the 4WD light when I pressed on the end of the indicator....pressing IN = light ON, letting out = light off.
Is something stuck in the CAD housing keeping the end of the indicator pressed in?

Either that or the switch is bad.
What could have happen is that on one side of the shift fork inside of your CAD assembly a C-clip could have broke or snapped off. And now is stuck engaged. Open your CAD cover and inspect shifting fork rod.
If the switch is bad, you will be able to check this once the cover is off.
The whole thing is rather simple so you should not have any issues checking what's wrong.
Good luck

found the culprit!!!!! pulled the two vacuum lines off of the actuator (red/black) there wasn't vacuum pulling on the outside tube (red) to engage 2WD...traced that back towards transmission and found a hole/gash in the steel line next to the cat converter....going to try a temp fix with tubing....

SUCCESS!!!! I fixed the problem..it was two fold....(1) a hole/gash, and (2) the line was clogged....I removed the line from where it comes down from the trans and cut it where the hole was...took about an hour to unclog....pieced it all back together and joined to the two pieces with a small rubber tube (2" long) and zipped tied them on both ends...hooked it all together and have good strong vacuum down to the nipples on the actuator....now, time for shower and beer!!!
