You cant really clean the tps. But you can test it with a cheap voltmeter. A Haynes manual will tell you how to test it and most of the other sensors also.

3000 for a REBUILD? Seriously? For less than that, you could buy a mega-viper. and have it installed........ never have to worry about your trans again.

Check TPS as referenced, and check TV cable also. I would also do the check valve delete (instruction in the DIY section here).

And +1 on mega viper if you are going to spend $3000 on rebuild. A stock rebuild is not a good option. Improving on inherent weakness of tranny is better value. Of course shipping and customs to Canada may be prohibitive as well. A typical standard rebuild here is between $1600 and $2000.

Same here 1600.00 to1800.00. Tps would give you little rpm surges, 200/300 bumps while cruising. Check TV cable both ends. The cable could be binding or the housing with the adjuster clip may have got broke off the bracket, which happened to mine and is still a mystery how. Changing fluid and adjusting both bands and cleaning GPS got me 20,000 miles more before rebuild time.

Thanks guy's, those last few post are very helpful.
3g's is way too much, I'm better to buy a viper and pick it up myself at that price.
Anyway, took it to the trans shop and the guy said durring the test drive, seems like the valves are sticking. Sometime this week I'm going to drop the pan and look for debris. While it's off, I'm going to remove the valve body, clean it out along with the governor solenoid. Adjust the bands and check all the cables, also going to test the TPS. And I'm also going to do the Check valve delete. At least now I know I have a little more time before this thing goes for good.
I'm going to pick up a used case and and rebuild one myself. Gonna get all the fancy parts that are in the viper, but half the cost. One question on that though. Should I stick with the stock valve body or is there something better out there that I can put in?

Stock valve body is fine. Put in a transgo and or sure cure kit in and you'll be good to go. Also , in the FAQ/DIY section there is a trans thread started by MonteC. On page 5 or 6 it has all the stuff listed you should install for upgrades.

I got that bookmarked, very helpful thread.
I'll be buying the PATC #4K rebuild kit, looks like a pretty good kit.
Once I get started on this, I'll be starting a thread.. never rebuilt an automatic before and I know I'll need all the help I can get.
In the mean time, wish me luck that cleaning out the valve body buy's me more time.lol

If you look at the transmission thread by J415, there are links to various walkthrus for rebuilding your trans as well. With PICS!

You probably don't need to remove the valve body. Just the gov body (clean it out) and check and or replace the accumulator spring for now. (which I do believe can be without VB removal).

I can confirm that the accumulator spring can indeed be changed without removing VB. And the spring is prone to breaking. Upgraded spring can be purchased through www.wittrans.com , Sonnax, and I believe PATC also. No sense replacing with OEM spring.
