Default 14x3 S bolt problem

OK. I tried installing a 14x3 then an 10x2 air cleaner from Edlebrock. I was unable to screw the S bolt in because it was too long and hit the frame. I cut it so short to try and get it to fit that if I wanted ANY thread in the throttle body I would have to remove the TB.

Is there a way to get this to work or what am I doing wrong.

Doing it wrong. There is a sketch on here somewhere of a sample bolt and it went in just fine for me. It's close but fit fine.

Also available in the FAQ/DIY section. Also depends on what air cleaner you are using.

where did you get the bolt from? Also, what exactly does it mean with a drop? Is that the lip that is on the bottom of the air cleaner plate which sits on the TB?

I would probably use the 14x3 edlebrock.

You make the bolt using 1/4" threaded rod from any hardware store. And yes, as far as drop goes, it is the lip on the bottom air cleaner plate. Too much drop and you'll have to get a spacer to raise it up, so the plate does not hit the throttle linkage and other various parts.

Fair warning...you will get a hiss from it. Others have and so did I. I solved it by putting the stock box back on after two days.

+1, the sucking noise. I hated it also(some think it's great). And lost bottom end. (at least on my 98) I won't even try it on my 2000 because I hate the noise. I have plenty of s bolts and some factory Dakota air hat mounts that also work. They are the 2 things with a stud and bolt in this pic.
