Default Transmission compatability

I have a 2001 RAM ext cab 4x4 and my tranny is going out. I found a guy parting out a 1998 RAM ext cab 4X4 and I can get a tranny from him for $300. The truck had 160,000 miles on it and had the 5.9L engine like mine. Will the transmission from the '98 work for my truck?

only thing that is different is the electronics. you need to change 2 of the 3 sensors in the pan to get overdrive back.

i have a 98 trans in my 2001 as well.

no, 96-99, 00-02

you need the transducer, and the tcc, lock up solenoid.

these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRANSMISSION-GOVERNOR-SOLENOID-SENSOR-TRANSDUCER-KIT-00-DODGE-46RE-47RE-48RE-/230798068630?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35bca30b96&vxp=mtr
and this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/A518-A618-TCC-OVERDRIVE-SOLENOID-SET-WIRE-HARNESS-42RE-44RE-46RE-47RE-2000-UP-/250931839601?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6cb40271&vxp=mtr
get all of those and replace them all. the borg warner solenoid will help with shifting pressures, and wont clog up as easily. its also bigger than the stock solenoid.

you will also need to grab this from your current transmission to swap over to the 98 trans

it holds the gov solenoid, and transducer in place.

Now wait, I have a transmission out of a 1998 Ram in my 2000 Ram and it works flawlessly! I changed nothing in the transmission.

00-02 transmissions use the electrical parts i listed in a previous post.

redneck_ram is spot on with this. The tranny will work fine you just won't have OD. I'm surprised petea216's works. On the other hand, is he sure it came out of 98?
