Default Gear ?

I have a 96 1500 and i already got a rear gear set ! My question is will i be able to install the rears now and the fronts later and be ok as long as i don't put it in 4x4 ? I know the front shaft turns all the time but if its not in 4x4 will it still tear up the t-case ?

Should be fine. IIRC, you can remove the front driveshaft to ensure 4wd isnt engaged.

Front shaft shouldn't be turning all the time either.

Well actually the front shaft does turn all the time, just residual though when not in 4x4.

I took my front shaft out.. It isnt needed but it keeps you from reaching down and grabbing it and forgetting that the gears dont match.. Even better for when others drive the truck
