Default idle problems

Hello. I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2L that I am currently fixing. It's been a project truck and hasnt left the shop so I don't know how it runs when it's going down the road. Anyways, the truck will start and idle fine but after I rev the truck in park, the rpms will drop to roughly 300 (Truck doesnt have rpm guage) and then it will go back up to normal and idle fine. Doesn't have to be much of a rev. It shouldn't drop this low and then go back to normal like that. During this period, the truck almost stalls (hasn't yet) and the interior lights go dim because its just barely running. The truck doesn't have any codes coming up or any dash lights on. I'm thinking it may be the MAP sensor, TPS or 02 sensor.

What do you guys think?

Possibly IAC and/or TPS. Disconnect battery ground. Remove throttle body and then IAC and clean (do not twist pintle) and clean out IAC port. Reconnect battery and drive it for a bit ans see if that does it.

+1 on Cleaning IAC first. Next best bet is TPS and relatively inexpensive at 35.00. USD

Thanks guys. It turns out it was the IAC. I didnt change it but I disconnected the battery, took it out and cleaned it and inside the port then put it back together. Now when I rev it, the rpms don't drop below what they should. However, once I take my foot off the gas, there is a 1 second delay before it drops. Not sure what that is. I'm thinking that this problem may be tps related. But in the big picture of things, it's not really a big deal.

Glad you got her fixed.

On a side note, When you post a thread in the "tech" section , in the future, would you please make a better title. So that anyone searching for the same or similar issue as yours , will find it. I'm pretty sure no one will do a search for "Weird Issue. Please help." I'm going to change your thread title to "idle problems" if that's ok with you.

I got a question? Why do you disconnect the ground on the battery when doing that stuff
