dreaded death wobble?

If the wheel is jerking when you make a turn and you are NOT in 4hi, then the u-joints are shot and need replacing. Use only Spicer 5-760x joints from an axle shop or you will be doing them again soon. They are OEM replacements and are not greaseable. The stock ones last longer than any aftermarket greaseable joints.
Death wobble is really what is sounds like: you will think you are dying! This occurs at hwy speeds over bumps like expansion joints and the steering wheel will go bat sh$t crazy in your hands. If you are asking if you had death wobble, than you did not.

You get a Haynes and download one of the manuals from the FAQ/DIY section yet?
Anyway, for the front. I like to put it in 4wd and make sure it's engaged. (drirve back and forth a bit). Jack one side or another up, and rotate the tire forward and backward, while looking at the ujoint. It should be solid, with no movement at the joint itself.

Do the above to make sure they work in complete motion. Or, you can just drive to a shop and get them replaced because you already said they are jerking which means the grease is gone and they are rusted. The last set on mine I noticed while greasing the BJs that one cap was rusted out. You can also grab them and wiggle hard. There should be no movement at all.
