Default Pitman arm will not give up

This is the 3rd attempt.... grrrr

PB for a few days on/off/etc.

Careful heat from torch so as not to kill the seals.

Whacked it many times up to 5 lb sledge. On end of thread thread, on the shoulder of arm near sector shaft.

Impact is done driving it.

Used large adjustable wrench with extension. tweaked it and have turned a few more threads with closed box.

I'm hoping to not resort cutting it off.

Open to suggestions.

You've already tried everything I wouldve. It's a long stretch but you could try som dry ice on it or some of that freezing spray.

Don't slam it too hard with a hammer, (damage to steering box) . tighten the puller and smack it (the pitman arm) a few times(not too hard) then tighten the puller, repeating that process.

air chisel to vibrate it. good to see you have the nut threaded on a bit for when it flies off like a missile

All I know is, you have to be as gentle as possible(hard to do, I know), or say goodbye to the gear box.

Yeah, I guess best bet for dry ice would be a party store. I do like that idea.

Yeah super zman, that has been my approach that you've said, exactly to the letter for the reasons you stated. I had to stop a buddy from waling on it or he'd be buying me a steering box.

Air chisel I do not have and that is a good option to try also.

I've called it a day today, in shame. I will report what does happen though.

I actually called a local shop. They have lost my business now. First response was that they only will do it if they buy the part, which I already had. Then I asked to just break it loose and retorque the but on. $50 for that.... I'm willing to put up with more grief before dropping that. Will talk to other shops for the hell of it....

That sucks. I hope you get it off. You could always try tooling around the yard/street at low speeds with the keeper nut off, checking every 5 seconds to see if anything has moved. If you were very careful about it it would be safe.

i can buy dry ice at my local grocery store here and some gas stations. It has become a favorite for the cooler on days we go to the lake.

I would soak the whole thing in a 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone. Ive used it a few times on "impossible" things lately, and it kicks the tar out of PB. Then, put a couple blasts from an impact on your puller and (hopefully) watch your pitman walk right off.

@WR -- Thanks dude. Good idea to consider.

@QCL -- Well aren't you special over there!!

@Scooter -- I like that mix. Where can I readily get Acetone...?
