well, I just got back from the big island in Hawaii (honeymoon) and man was it a blast. Did alot of exploring of the Volcano's National Park and all of the interesting sights of the island. Visited a green sand beach and a black sand beach but somehow missed the prestine white sand beach. Sunday we rented a kayak and went out to the best spot for snorkeling and had a absolute blast out there. we kayaked over to a place called Cooks Monument and spent 1/2 a day over there snorkeling. On the way back we took the coast line route instead of the straight line back to the launching point and were rewarded with some pretty close encounters with a pod?? of dolphins. they got to within about 20~25 feet of us. that was really cool...

I rented us a 4x4 so we could go where ever we wanted to on the island and it was well worth it. no heavy 4x4ing but it did take us a lot farther than a normal rental car would have. They gave us a Furd explorer... worst POS I've ever had to rent but that was the only choice they had. Stupid Furd had this door lock configuration that absolutely sucked... only 1 key lock on the whole suv... one the drivers door. none on the tailgate and none on the passenger side door. this made life a real pain in the ***...

man....must be nice to visit the island of hawaii and go snorkeling.....i have always wanted to do that. We are going to daytona for bikeweek so i guess snorkeling down there is better than nothing....lolanyway....congrats on the honeymoon and show the pics!!!!!

 

thanks, I will definately share the pics. I'm not sure if I ever mentioned it on this forum but it's because of the Dodge Ram that we met... she owns a Dakota...

Did you take the really really steep hill down to the wiamea vally? The rental car place gave me a map of places not to drive. So That was the first place I went to and then the green sand beach.

 

Nope, I had a ford... trannys are worse than the dodges and we still had a few days left when we went over there. the last thing I wanted to do was to mess with a tranny problem on a rental car. as it was, it was already shifting funny after our visit to the green beach...

 

Leave it to a ford to give you problems, sounds like you had a lot of fun. My family and I just got back from a three week trip out west, we rented a RV here in NC and drove all the way out there!

 

cool, where did you visit?

 

We went to 14 states total but mainly went to the northwest, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Iowa, Idaho, Missouri Kentucky, Tennesse, Nebraska, Oklahoma, I can't remember the others, oh and Canada right near Glacier Park. We just made a big loop. It was great it is beautiful out there, really flat though, and no trees, I'm used to being surrounded by trees here in NC!
