Default CLANK!

So the title pretty much describes it, when I shift from Park to Drive, Park to Revere, or Drive to Reverse (and vice versa) theres a loud annoying clank that comes from the tranny or transfer case...is it like this for all of you? I'm not parked on any hills or anything, its pretty flat here in Michigan. Anything you can do about it?

Sound to me like you have a U joint going out. Its most likely the rear one to the diff.
Do you have a lift on this truck? Improper drive line angle from cheap lift kits can cause this problem.

Mine does the same thing. My Fathers 87 ramcharger does the same thing also. If you go under your truck and see how much Play is in the drive shaft Some rotation about 1/2 inch but souldnt have much up and down play at all. My sound is from the rear yolk. I have put new ujoints in it still the same. Does it only seem to do it when you first do it in the morning? That is when mine does it. There was a thread on here about our transmissions not pumping fluid unless in drive or netural. I was wondering if this has anything to do with your Clank and many others I have seen even the 05 2500 I was looking at last week.

I had the same problem in my 97 ram. I thought it was the rear u-joint on my drive shaft too. Yea well its not. Its slippage in the spider gears and the clunk is from them slamming together. Yea it sucks.

I think it is just the "Dodge Clank". Its been noticed on a lot of dodge vehicles. My dakota used to do it bad and the u-joints were tight and it had an open differential. Didn't have any problems with it. Sold it at 122,00 miles on original tranny and motor. Hope I can get that many and more out of my ram. My brothers V10 even does the clank some of the time. Just my opinion though.

I was wondering if it was just a "Dodge thing". New U-Joints in the rear, and that didn't stop it. I just wanted to make srue nothings wrong with it. Thanks guys

just a quick thought....if it sounds alot like mine... then you might have a worn or loose t-case chain. mine clanked bad too and ... besides it being a dodge..i replaced the t-case chain it quited up alot!!!!! assuming you have a 4x4 if not its just the spider gears in the rear... nothing to worry bout
