All ignition timing values are controlled
by the powertrain control module
(PCM).

After testing, install air cleaner assembly.
This says the Data link connector is in the engine compartment?? Am i missing something? we were using the OBDII port inside the truck.

Data link connector is referring to the plugs on the PCM if I am not mistaken.

After a few searches, from what i've found, it's the OBDII port. I think the data link connector may have been pre OBDII.

And OBDII port is an OBDII port, and an OBDI port is an OBDI port. They are both located in the cab. Not diagnositic ports are located in the engine compartment. Just the PCM and it's plugs. Hence why I referred to the PCM as having the Data Link Ports.

That was my original thought, but the other link posted said to hook a DRB scanner to the data link connector in the engine compartment to check the distributor. That is what is/was throwing me off.

Possibly to eliminate the OBD port under the dash as being an issue?

Dunno.

yeah who knows. But, after work i'll be going home to try this and see if it fixes the issue. Set distributor back to 0 and adjust timing thru the scan tool. Didn't think we could adjust timing on these so it didn't cross my mind to do so. Any thing else i should be trying/doing?

Yours may look a little different, but there should be some connectors in the power distribution box under the hood (basically, a big fuse box). This may be what the manuals are referring to as the "data link connector."

See the "joint connector" or two in the bottom, right corner? Yours may look slightly different than this one, but should be similar.

According to what little I can get by searching for information on the Solus Ultra, it should be able to set timing on some cars. Not sure if it will set timing on the Rams. Might be worth a phone call or email to Snap-on just to ask if its possible.

Parameter you are looking for is fuel sync. Ignition timing is not adjustable.
