I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Liter and i was wondering what kind of duals to put on it and how to make it loud and save gas?

It's hard to do both. You can't take restriction away from the exhaust system without losing torque...and thus losing gas mileage.

And in my opinion, duals always look horrible on a truck. I have yet to see ones that are straight. One is always pointed up..and the other one is pointed down or cocked to the side. Single side exit exhaust is fine for a truck, especially one with a low hp/torque rating. It gets the exhaust out away from the truck...and anything that's DIRECTLY behind the truck. Stick your money in a good gibson/dynomax muffler and some headers instead. Your gains will be a lot more noticeable. That's just my 2 cents though. Your truck...do whatever you want.

I have a 1999, with the 8.0 v10. I have a similar question. I am looking for a snappier sound, but not much louder than what I have now (stock). I also would like to have the exit out the side (vs. rear), nothing beats breathing exhaust in while you're travelling down the road .

Any suggestions?

Gibson makes an excellent cat-back system for the 8.0L (they make them for other motors as well ). Mopar performance also has one, but IIRC it's made by Gibson. Both of them improve both flow and sound, and would be your best bet. A diesel muffler/tail-pipe would also be an improvement. Several V10 owners run that as well. The diesel muffler tends to last longer than the gas mufflers.

You have to remember though that a V10 will never sound like a V8....just a V6 on steroids. Then again, I've heard some mean sounding V6s in my time.

I went with a flowmaster kit, dual out and reduced the dual 2.5" outs down to 2.25" and was able to increase performance, sound quality and keep my milage. I agree with Mr Rom on a couple of points but my dual outs look sweet. they are even and they do come out of the side instead of straight back.

[sm=deadhorse.gif] Just kiddin! The talk around here about exhaust never ends. Not that I'm complaining. Mr. Rom is right about dual exhaust. You will not gain anything from staight duals except loudness. Flowmaster and Magnaflow make some of the best mufflers out there. Your best bet is to go with one of the two. I have dual 40series single in dual out flows on my truck. The truck is loud and performance is great with this setup. Magnaflows also have some loud mufflers. I personally prefer flowmaster. my 2 cents....

I've decided to get a Flowmaster dual exhaust system and later on take the muffler off of it to make it louder.

I disagree on that... true dual will open up the exhaust and let the motor produce as much hp as it can. the more air flow, the more HP it can make. it all depends on what your after and what rpm range you use your motor.

i got that crappy bolt on from ebay... it has 2 1/4 for some reason the motor shifts alot better and my mileage went up and if i kick out of over drive and mash the gas ... itll sit you back in your seat.. im redoing my system only after a month and a half b/c the crap i got now is fallin off... headers to highflow cat direct fit to (undecided) flow/magnaflow/gibson/ whatever muffler. then thats where i start to run into my problem... i was gonna get a few lenghts of pipe from a muff shop and bend it myself with an hydrulic bender from ebay but you can bend exhaust pipe with that... u gotta mandrel or machine bend it.. so im terrified to go with another bolt on or pay outa my *** for a muff shop to fit piping ... only thing i know ... is IM doing the welding... i aint trusting another shop that im paying to do my welds... i learn from my mistakes.[sm=chairshot.gif]
