1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L won't start?!

YAY for using the search function! I don't to jack this thread but I'm having the exact same problem with my truck, had to actually get a tow home today. I was sitting at a red light and it conked out and won't start anymore. Like the O.P. said when I turn the key to the "on" position before actually engaging the starter I don't hear the whining noise coming coming from the pump. I'm looking for some suggestions to maybe see what it could be.
I've checked the relay and fuse and they are still good. I got under and looked at the top of the tank where the pump is and all the wires and lines are still connected good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated before I have to put it in the shop and spend some big bucks.

After doing some reading in the FSM, have you checked to make sure your ASD relay is good? It's about the only other relay I could think of before saying it sounds like a bad ground or short, or your pump is toast.

Possibly, but I wonder what everyone else has to say? (I'm ok with autos, but there's guys on here who have been doing it for a long, long time who would have a better starting point IMO)

The best test is to make sure you have voltage at the fuel pump. If you can verify that, it is the fuel pump. Another test is to beat on the gas tank with a rubber mallet. Sometimes the vibration will get the fuel pump started again.
If it is the fuel pump, drain your tank as much as possible, drop it, R&R the fuel pump, put the tank back. Not that bad to do unless your tank is full like mine was because I had just filled up and it wouldn't start at the gas station.

Ya my problem was a 'faulty fuel pump' and i had it changed 6 months ago but ya running it low gas was one problem i had and i will keep it half full or more ftom now on ( costed me s thousand bucks to have it changed but at least ill have my money back from my old pump)
