Default parking brake adjustment?

Ok, I need to pass inspection and my "brake" dash light is blinking. Ive had this issue before and it was the parking brake. Last time I pulled the drum off to adjust it from there and never again, pain in the ***.

The adjustment I know is below the drivers side door. The bolt that holds the adjustment nut is extremely long. Does anyone have any suggestions/tricks to adjust this nut? It just seems too long for even a socket and there isn't room for a wrench.

Please help just got a ticket for expired inspection, not cheap in Texas

Thanks

Jesse D.

Download the 2001 factory service manual from the FAQ's section.
It will explain how to adjust it.

I was in the same shape you're in a year ago, although I didn't get a ticket. My adjustment was so rusted it wouldn't turn at all. I cut the side out of a nut and some flatwashers and used them for shims to tighten the cable. Wrapped some electrical tape around the whole thing to hold them in place. Worked like a charm.
A bootleg sticker is cheaper than a ticket. Not suggesting anything.

The light is blinking because the parking brake pedal is not contacting the switch to turn the brake light off. Look under the dash behind the parking brake pedal and you'll see a little tab where the end of the pedal assembly is supposed to contact it. Try pulling the parking brake release and holding it while you pull up on the pedal itself. While still holding the pedal let go of the release, then the pedal, light should be off. To fix it you'll have to bend the tab or attach something to it so the pedal will touch it when the brake is released. Me, I just unplugged the switch so it never comes on.

unplug the switch, get the inspection and show the receipt to the court. ticket dismissed.
Did they really pull you over for just an expired sticker?

i used a pair of needle nose vise grips and a deep well socket. i might have held the socket with another pair of vise grips and twisted the needle nose side.

actually pulled me over because my license plate was sitting in my dash(visible to the officer) and not on my bumper. I hit a deer and totaled my bumper, almost impossible to find a bumper for this year model...weird. The law has changed in Texas where it won't be required to have a front license plate but that doesnt go into effect until September, dumb. So, i need to get an inspection, then make an appointment with a DPS officer to get him to look at my license plate, now mounted on my grill with zip ties, and then i''ll have to pay a $20 fee to the court instead of $140, effin retarded.

Cool.
Upshur county?

Longview cops are more concentrated in South Longview, I've never had an issue in North Longview.

Ain't TXDPS fun?
