+1 - makes absolutely no sense to me, however, I'm always open to learning something new - Chrysler small block has used the same chain design/setup for many, many years now... You can also retrofit a gear drive or a belt drive setup, if desired, so this issue is a real head-scratcher to me...

I plan on getting the Cloyes timing set too. For only around 43 bucks, it isn't a bad deal. Plus some other members encouraged me to get it when I do my tune up.

So this would be better than the Rockauto deal?

+1 on the timing chain tensioner P5007709 - even the double roller chains stretch a bit with time - the tensioner keeps valve timing rock solid for years - I have one in my 5.9 truck motor and love it..

+2 on the tensioner. I bought one and added it to my 5.9 that I am building right now too. Just takes some of the worry away.

I just looked through Larry Shepard's "How to Modify Your Mopar Magnum V8"... he is intimate with these engines and very good at noting the differences between A, LA and Magnum engines, and any variations between 5.2L and 5.9L versions.

When it comes to timing sets, the A engines silent chain used a nylon cam sprocket, but the LA and Magnums used all metal sets.
For increased HP applications it is recommended to use Mopar Performance or Cloyes double roller timing sets.
He mentions that the Magnums use a smaller key on the cam sprocket, and will not work with the A series engine, but there is no other mention of there being differences between engine series.

This would suggest that LA and Magnums should be the same.

Thankyou Spillage for doing the research I think your reply and Zmans reply has sold me on installing this
