Question 318 ( 5.2L ) CAM Question

I have a 99 Rango with the 5.2L motor it is a 4x4 and looking to put a Cam in it, I have found 2 CAMs that say will fit and in different options All Made by Comp Cams



Also i have the HS 1.7 RRs not sure if that may make anything different

Computer Controlled

None of those cams will work with the 1.7 RRs, you will be exceeding your stock valve springs lift limit. (bad scene) Max lift stock is .480 and that is with 1.6 rockers.... your 1.7s will put you over. You will need better valve springs to run any of those combos. Or, revert to stock ratio rockers.

is there a Cam that you know of that will run my current setup? i dont want to change everything again its a B***h job to do, also what valve springs would you suggest with that?

Not if you plan on keeping those roller rockers, cam is too big. That cam is too big without other supporting parts, if you look at the web pages those cams are listed on you will see other parts needed.

If you want to know how much take the lift of your cam divide it by 1.6 example .587 (Lift) / 1.6 (rocker) = .366875 Now take .366875 x 1.7 = .623 <---thats the new lift..... so you go from .587 lift to .623 lift.

.467 with 1.7= .496 ext

.458 with 1.7= .486 int
