Default Synthetic oil in high mileage engine with new gaskets

It's been a while since I've posted, but I have a question for you all. I just recentely replace my rear main seal, oil pan gasket, timing chain, oil pump, front seal, intake gaskets and valve gaskets. Would there be any harm in running synthetic oil now? I want the wicking effect to clean out my engine but I don't want any adverse effects? Thanks again fellas!!!

Less friction would be about the only real benefit. If you want to clean it out you'd need the ATF trick.

I've been using the mobile 1 synthetic in mine for a couple years now, noticed the oil stays clean much longer now, however my rear main is now leaking and my lifters have become noisy. Not sure if it's related, next oil I'm going back to the normal oil see if the lifters quiet down.

When I used synthetic for the first time in my rig, I think it was about 5 years ago, my valve covers leaked like crazy due to the wicking. So I went back to dino oil. I think I'm gonna give synthetic a shot at my next oil change.

Yo J!

I've been running Mobil 1 10w-30 for the last 1.5 years. I've had no issues with leaks or other. That has been my experience and I'm sticking to it. However, I started at 125K and now at 143K.

Default Synthetic

All my vehicles are high mileage...120,000 to 264,000....I have run full synthetic Mobil 1 in them as soon as I bought them with no adverse problems including leaks.

None.

Less friction would be about the only real benefit.
Synthetics do not offer "less friction". The main advantages of synthetic oil include better cold start protection in extremely cold environments (flow) and better protection at extreme high temps. They can also allow you to extend your oil change interval, in most cases to 10,000 miles with some allowing you to go up to 15,000 miles between changes.

If none of the above applies to you, you can still run synthetic if you choose (obviously), but a conventional oil would work just as well.

If you want to clean it out you'd need the ATF trick.
Don't do that. Its unnecessary and potentially harmful.

Ah the great oil debate again.....

Run whatever you oil you want. I have ran dino to top of the line full synthetic oil.

Mobil 1; 10w30 Good to about 3000-5000 miles then breaks down and the motor starts to use oil.

Castrol Edge syntec 5w40; Good oil lasted longer than Mobil 1

Currently using LIQUI MOLY Synthoil Premium 5W-40 full synthetic and loving it. Unfortunately this oil is not available in the States as a full synthetic.

http://www.liqui-moly.de/liquimoly/w..._usa_home.html

All three oils are in the same price range.

I been using the Valvoline synthetic oil that's rated at 300,000 miles. I haven't had a problem with anything.
