Default Power steering and new Serp belt

Hi all, first post here, I have a 97 Ram 5.2L "Y" motor 5" lift regular cab. I just replaced the power steering pump because the other one was leaking like mad and while I was at it I replaced the serpentine belt. last night I just stopped for gas and when I was leaving steering locked up and motor quit on me. too weird? Now I have a little leak again where the stainless line screws into the ps pump. Is there a small "O" washer that goes on that? I thought I saw one but I didn't put one in when I connected the line so is that the leak? Also, the serpentine belt when I bought it there were two choices and one seemed a little bigger so I went with the one that that was a little smaller. It fits very snug but not crazy tight, is that OK?? Thanks!!

I drove over a year on a smaller belt because the parts counter gave me the wrong one. I could hear a whine but didn't hurt anything. Changed back to the correct size and noise went away. That was about three years ago at least. The pumps are "rebuilt" much like steering boxes are: re-sealed and re-painted. You may just have to find a better salvage pump or a new one. As for the leak, you might have just drained it and it seized.

yes, there is an o-ring in the pressure line. there should have been a new one with your new pump, if not just try a universal o-ring about 5/16 inch.

FYI, I had a similar issue with my 2001's power steering lines that kept leaking out the back. I had put a new rubber washer, and it stopped for about a couple weeks, but started a progressive leak again. What I finally had to do to stop it was put plumbers tape on the thread in combination with the O'ring. That finally fixed the leak.
