my 96 dodge ram is over heating
I am having trouble with my truck over heating and I have replaced all sensors and thermastate and I am at a stand still. Just replaced the heads about a year ago and just now got it legal and it runs but over heating please help me
I am new to the site so, I have no idea of the exact terms or special conditions that cause these conditions but, first (on any vehicle) I would check the water and ensure no air within the system. Fill the over flow bottle to the fill line and verify the radiator cap relieves pressure at the right temperature (on stove in a pan of water and cooking thermometer).
Next, check and make sure oil is at the proper level (it is an easy one to miss). Note: on my motor home, I found synthetic oil runs a lot cooler than any other type of oil, even when it is all but gone. I never overheated when I should have. When I put regular castrol oil in to fill it (after I realized I used all of the synthetic oil), It got warm fairly quick and I knew when the oil was low by the temp gauge.
Next, thermostat and then water pump. Unless these guys and maybe gals have more vehicle specific information, that is what I would check. Quickest and easiest first. Lack of oil pressure could cause overheating issues also. Along with wrong temperature spark plugs. Hope you get it figured out. Again, I do not know these vehicles and will be watching with interest on this one. I have the 96'.

welcome to df.
how hot is it running?
try temporarily removing the thermostat and see if that makes any difference at all.
test clutch fan by spinning it by hand with engine off. it should have some resistance. also watch it when you turn off the engine. it should stop turning within a few revolutions and not keep spinning.
