ok... im working on a 96 ram 1500 with v8. not sure if its a 5.9 or 5.2. motor was swapped out. after the swap out it ran great for about 5 months. it cranks but wont start. new fuel pump, cam and crank sensor, cap rotor wires and coil all new as well. we found that the timing was off so we replaced the timing set and tried to fire and still nothing. we have injector pulse and good fp, (45 psi at rail) also have spark so ecm should be working properly. checked firing order and its good... motor just cranks and cranks but will not start... starting to run out of ideas... will also say that the starter is cranking slowly due to all the diag time put into this truck. not only from us but from others as well. its also drawing battery down to about 8-9 volts roughly. could this be my possible issue due to not enough voltage due to starter lagging so heavily?

I see you said cam sensor... What about crank position sensor on the bell housing to the left of the distributor? A defective CPS could throw it off. Though sounds like you have fuel and spark. Tried running it on starter fluid through the throttle body?

 

new crank sensor as well... tried gas down tb and still nothing. old timing set was really loose... so we replaced it... still having doubts that timing is correct. i believe it is but not 100% timing marks align properly but im questioning it still

Throw a charger on the battery, and make sure it is fully charged.

If you have spark, and fuel..... need to test compression. See what the numbers say.

did you check the ground wires? check the ignition coil wiring, and look for a loose ground wire either on the block or on the firewall. sounds like its all there. align the timing marks on the sprockets and make sure the rotor in the distributor is pointin at the #1? if its off you might have to reset it all to TDC and then make sure your distributor gets set down into place correctly. dont turn it cause it controlls the fuel pulse not ignition timing.

 

does anyone infact know if this is a inteference motor or not... ran into big issues today... motor only turns about 270 degrees then locks up.. will not turn past that... looks like we are pulling heads tomorrow to see what is happening

 

ok so new info. 1 broken valve 6 others bent, 7 bent pushrods. rebuilt heads new pushrods timing is set dead on but the rotor is not lining up on the cam sensor correctly... any ideas??? im out of them
