The fluid inside the axle is a thick gear lube, and you might have blown the seal out, when mine blew I still had some pressure and the brakes worked a little, it might be a pinhole in the line somewhere, they corrode easy, especially here in the northern states because they use way too much salt on the roads I think you might have multiple things going on with the speedo and trans
So its not an axle seal? Then how would the blown line effect the speedo, and why would the trans light come on and I still have pressure when I push on the breaks? Could I may of ripped the seal around the pistons in the caliper?
You said the speedo has been out for awhile. Either a brake line or a wheel cylinder has gone south on you. Fix the obvious first.
Im thinking a piston seal on the calipers is what is leaking. Between that and a blown axle seal. As for the speedo, I haven't the feintest idea of it, but im pretty sure that that is causing the trans issue because the computer isn't sensing when to shift. I'm waiting on more input before I make any moves. But Later tonight when it cools off, im going to pull apart the wheel and see if I can see anything.

I think you're right, also check the tv cable to make sure it hasn't come off or is out of adjustment, this also caused a shifting problem for me

Reason: Fixed it.
You might have to get under the truck and look? LOL Unless the rear line is leaking or a WC is, the front brakes should have no effect on how the tranny shifts as far as I know. Do you have 4wheel abs ? You got issues with that truck
@ zman yeah haha, I bought it for half off the KBB price, i'm paying for it now haha. I went and looked under it a bit ago, and it's only dripping off that upper right corner. I'm going to go look at everything again in a bit when things cool down and the driveway isn't 140 degrees lol.
