Default Running 15W40 oil in a gasser?

Hi all!!

The plenum is due on my 1994, but I want to do it on my vacation in a month....a friend told me if I ran 15W40 oil it would smoke less (I guess because it's so heavy it won't make it thru the plenum gasket?)

Any thoughts on this? Am I risking damage??

Thanx

I ran Rottella T 15w-40 last year. It was fine in the summer/fall but took too long for my liking to circulate in the winter. It would knock for about 5 or seconds till it got flowing.

If you live in the south, which you don't, then thicker oil is always a good idea. In the north, I use 10w40. 10w30 is too thin with as many miles I have, and like previously stated, 15w40 took too long to circulate in the winter. I'm loving MaxLife 10w40 for all-season oil with 155k on the clock. Just fix the plenum then worry about oil.
