Default Wondering after Standing on the Brakes

I had some guy in a straight truck pull across all lanesand stop, he never looked to his left.

I had to stand on the brakes in my 1999 Dodge 1500 Sport4x4, 78k miles. The guy pulled forward just enough that I was able to squeeze behind him, I stopped about 20 feet past his truck.

BUT I collapsed one of the front brake rotors.

I have gone over everything, and everything seams tight. My problem is that now when changing lanes the truck feel like its floating and darting. Really a strange feeling knida like an almost flat tire of loosewheel.

I had the front end alignment done about 3 months ago, makes me wonder if they didn't tighten the eccentric bolts down tight enoughand something slipped.

Any ideas?

Did you replace both sides with new parts or just that side?

OH yes, Would NOT be a safe move to only do one side.

I replaced both rotors and pads.

You could see that the other one was starting to fail when looked down inside.

check the tracbar . and all other steering /suspension components for that matter. It's very possible that something has gone bad since it was in for alignment, or they missed something. Brake hoses are another thought.

You did that just from braking hard?

Yep. 45 MPH panic stop.

Like I said I have check and double checked. Everything looks and feels tight. And it wasn't doing that before hand.

I even put a pry bar to everything to triple check. Just too many moving parts on the newer trucks. My '89 is simple.

I'm guessing that either something bent that I cant see or somehow knock the alignment out.

+1 on track bar for side to side movement.

Were the brake rotors correct?

Did you clean the surface where the rotor mates to the hub? Rust accumulation there would prevent the rotor from seating properly, and it would feel exactly like a loose wheel.

Put it up on jack stands, and start shaking stuff. There is a chance that the panic stop stressed some member, and now it doesn't wanna do it's job right any more.

Steering box slop may be an issue as well.

That rotor was already on its way out. Too thin.

How do your brakes feel? Spongy at all? Didn't blow the piston seal on that caliper did you?

Yes, surfaces were all cleaned.

The truck had TopGun Customz control arms on it when I bought it. PO said he thought it would stiffen up the suspension. He told me that he had a shop in town do it.

I keep them well greased.

I found a bad tie rod last fall and didn't want to be under it in the winter fixing something else so I replaced everything.

Also put a steering box brace on it. So that's as solid as it comes.

Didn't check the wheel bearing / hub, I'm gonna have to check that.
