Default 96 B1500 5.2 Catalytic Convertor(s)& 02 sensors

I just picked up a 96 B1500 conversion van with a 5.2.
I figure on giving it a good tune up but was wondering ,how many 02 sensors and catalytic convertors does it have? Also,if it has more than one 02 sensor is it upstream, before the cat (or cats) or after the cat? The exhaust smeels a bit like sulphur so I figure something is out of whack. There's no emissions testing where I'm at so if a cat is bad I'm wondering if I can just remove it,put in a new piece of pipe or gut it without the van throwing codes.

Assuming it is federal emissions... (not california.) Two O2 sensors, pre-cat, and post-cat, one cat.

If the cat is bad, you can indeed gut it/replace with pipe. If you start getting cat efficiency codes, you can do the non-fouler trick on the post cat O2. (DIY in FAQ section for that.)

Need to find out just WHY the cat is clogging though. Read the plenum thread stickied at the top of this forum. It is pretty much a universal issue for the engines with the 'kegger' intake.

Welcome to DF.

I made 2 discoveries since first posting this,it's a B2500 and today I found out it was sold new in Calif so it has the California emissions controls.
It looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of learning about this van.
