Yep it's a 1996. I have no tach, no speedo, no volt regulator operation or voltmeter operation. I have a external regulator I can use to bypass the PCM regulator, wasn't planning on doing it so soon.

Gonna have to address the voltage regulator just to make the truck driveable.

I *think* you can piggyback the external regulator, and PCM, so you don't get codes for it, and the gauge should actually work..... Maybe.

Tach gets it's signal from the PCM, which in turn, gets it from the crank sensor. All that hooked up? If the PCM doesn't see a crank sensor signal, lots of things stop working.....

Yeah it's hooked up, otherwise my fuel pump wouldn't engage. I'm not concerned about codes, cuz I'll have 1million1 just for not having injectors and stuff like that hooked up.

Default Instrument Cluster Engineering

Okay, it's on the 1996 Dodge Ram 5.9L truck I've been converting to carb. All I have hooked up sensor wise for the engine are the oil pressure, gauge coolant temp sensor, and crankshaft position sensor. the PCM just refuses to run my gauges now. I'm stumped, I entirely disassembled my factory instrument cluster now. Here's my question: Does ANYBODY have a clue what sort of signal the tach gets from the PCM? Even if it is a technical article I don't care! It looks like I'm gonna have to make myself a custom cluster. One guy I talked to came up with this conclusion: Since the tach is driven by the CKPS, the tach has 3 electrical connections. I am wondering if maybe they can be hooked up to the tach to run it? He mentioned something about the tach feed being something like 5v or less.

Or a universal instrument cluster that doesn't cost $800!

Come on bud, This really should be in your original thread. As stated previously, not everyone knows the history. It can only help you.

Explain no one knows the history, I don't quite understand. Am I not being detailed enough in my list of mods? Reason I didn't put it in my previous thread is that I figured out the PCM was getting power and it didn't seem right to put it in there...

It's related to the issue(s) you are having. Easier for anyone following those issues to keep track. No big deal man. I just feel like you'll get better info keeping it all in one thread. Up to you bud.

Probably would be better to keep threads combined I guess. I wasn't really thinking cuz I'm half asleep. Can you merge the threads per chance?

PCM needs cam position sensor as well, else it will trip the ASD relay...... should still have power at the PCM, but, the PCM may be annoyed about lack of sensor input.

It's running the fuel pump and I don't have cam sensor hooked up, so it musn't need it to run ASD. All I could do is hook up the cam sensor, it won't be able to be in the dizzy, so it won't do the PCM much good thatways...
