Default Post Plenum Syndrome: Did Cleaning Damage The AIS Motor

Now I dealing with the aftermath of cracking open the engine and replacing the plenum pan/gasket ... breaking other stuff along the way.

Once I have parts I hand, I feel compelled to at least clean them.. the throttle body was no exception. It was lacquer and carbon packed where the idle bypass ports were completely covered.

I also cleaned the AIS valve with gum out. Now the AIS motor sounds like a "buzz saw" getting progressively louder as the engine warms.

Is gumout the kiss of death for the AIS motor ?

Any way to undo the damage ?

AIC perhaps? If it is making audible noises, its toast.

Ohh, yeah I think you might have damaged the IAC motor. I know there are certain auto chemicals you aren't supposed to use on sensors, which is why I've always been inclined to use CRC MAP sensor cleaner (cleans thoroughly, evaps quickly and leaves no residue behind). You could try pulling it and cleaning it again, only with the sensor cleaner though, but yeah I think it's done....

I meant the IAC.. the part manual calls it the AIS Motor..

Its a stepper with some sort of position sensor. It can't be disassembled.. From working with steppers and servos in a past life, either the sensor is hosed or the drive screw has too much play.

As a last ditch effort, I'll try to blast out the connectors with electronics cleaner..

I was hoping there was a fix..

Funny the idle is right on the money. Maybe it was broke all along.. it used to stall intermittently for no reason.. Once every few months.

HeyYou and Paul DeHayes are right,, its moving into full fail mode and closer to the landfill... I'll try to find a mopar part..

You'll pay a bit more for the Mopar part, but if you want to save a little bit, I've heard some people around here say they like Standard Motor Products IAC offering (runs about 25-35 depending on which part number you get via Rock Auto). Just some food for thought......
