Default Transmission problems

Looking for some direction. I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500,5.9 with a 4spd auto. I am having trouble with the transmission. Some timeswhen driving it acts lika a standard trans that you are engaging and disengagingthe clutch.I does not seem to be slipping. Fluid level is good, not burnt and looks good. Any ideas what might be happing. Also sincethis started I have a knock in the torque converter area. Hope to drop the pansoon and see if anything is out of place. THANKS

As you stated, drop the pan and see what's in it first. Inspect the internal harness also. And go from there. You might also purchase a Haynes manual and an inexpensive multimeter. This way you can test most if not all the sensors, ie throttle position sensor.

Today I was only able to remove the inspection cover for the torque converter. The weather turned bad an ran me inside. Nothing looked bad with the torque converter, bolts tight, no cracked flex plate, no obvious damage. Will be stuck at work for the next 3 days. Monday I will drop the pan and post pictures of what’s in the pan ad go from there.
