Default How to tell an A/C compressor is bad?

I'm trying to figure out how to tell of the compressor is bad. When I had the truck running I would here a clicking noise so I went and looked and the compressor would click on and then click off. What does that mean?

Compressor cycling on and off usually means it is low on refrigerant. Post some details about the vehicle so we can get you to the correct technical section for help. (model, year, engine size, transmission, mileage, etc).

Get yourself a can of refrigerant and a refill kit (walmart sells them), add a can and see if that helps.

get the refill kit that includes the simple little gauge on the fill line. it allows you to check your low side pressure to know if you are low or high or on-target. it has a color coded gauge for low, correct, and high. keep the gauge hose after you are done - and you can check pressures anytime you need, and if you ever need another kit you can get the one w/o the gauge and save a dollar or two.
