Default 3rd Gen Stock Rims on 2nd Gen Truck?

Hey guys, I found a great deal on a set of stock 17 inch rims for a 3rd generation truck on craigslist. The rims look great, and already have 35 inch BF Goodrich tires on them. I know they will physically go onto my truck. (8 lug, same lug spacing) But what else should I be concerned about by trying to put these specific 3rd gen rims with 35s onto my 2nd gen truck?

I've read about spacers, wheel centers not fitting quite right, and rubbing, all while others are experiencing no problems at all.

I really like the look of these rims, and I think they actually look better on the 2nd gens than the 3rd gens.

By the way, I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 360, and a 2.5 inch leveling kit on the front.

Any pictures or comments would be much appreciated!

I think they will bolt right on...bring some flavor of measuring device, and check that they will fit over the hubs. Might need a little bit more lift to prevent rub though.

Measure the diameter of the opening correct? That would make sense. What lift would you think would be more appropriate to get rid of any rubbing? Something like three inches in the front and then level the rear out to the front? Or an actual lift kit, because the only place I think it would hit the control arms on the front axle.

You might get lucky, and that would be the only place it rubbed.

Yep. Diameter of the opening.

Stop wasting time, a deal like that isn't going to wait forever. Go look, if it's close, buy them, you can always open up the hub centers a bit to get them to fit.

Generally, 5" of lift for 35's. But, you have a 3/4 ton, which already sits a couple inches higher, and then the 2.5 inch blocks but you REAL close to the magic number 5. I would give it a shot, and see what happens.

Just called the guy, going to look at them tonight, He has four rims, with Bf Goodrich 35s, around 50%, (slight inner wear he said), the hub covers or centers for $400.

Worst case I sell them just to get my money back out of them.

I have "3rd" Gen 17s on my '01 2wd. They're the Off Road Wheels, they were first available on the '00 and '01 Off Road Edition Rams. They fit perfectly

Thanks for the input, but since they are 8 bolt rims, they are a different style and offset, so I was looking for someone who has successfully done the same swap that I'm about to do.

Here is a picture from the add.

Nice truck though btw

They'll fit just fine and dandy. Plenty of 2nd gens running around my area with those exact wheels.

Thanks guys Im feeling more assured now about my purchase.

I ended up buying them last night, the tires will probably last until winter, that's about it. They look really good, a little cleaning up to be perfect. I'm pretty busy but hopefully I will have them on by the time the weekend rolls around.
