I just went out and disconnected the trailer harness. Ill go get more fuses in the morning and the see how things go

ok so I had some time today to start looking at the wires under my truck starting in the engine bay, found this red wire on the harness that runs down the driver side by the firewall. was hoping you of you dodge gods could help me figure out where it goes or what its for as im not able to find anything.

i don't know. it doesn't look like a factory wire, since its outside the harness. also its solid red, like an aftermarket add-on. all the factory wires have color codes.

does it have 12v on it? either hot to battery, or ignition switch, or anything else that's switched.

if i had to guess, i'd say its a hot wire for something the previous owner installed, and then removed when he sold the truck. maybe a remote start, or security, or audio, or running lights.

Hey all,

Not trying to hijack the thread here but has anyone ever heard of a flasher going continuously without hazzard or turn signals on? You can even hear it with the truck off so I assume it is getting power to the flasher at all times (no other reason for it to go work constantly) but there are no lights flashing inside or out. When I do use the turn signal or hazzard, they work.. The flasher just never stops clicking.

That's bizarre.

Have you verified it is indeed the flasher unit? Stick your finger on it, and feel it click?

when the flasher is clicking, are the brake lights on?

probe for voltage at the flasher plug, both w/ and w/o the flashers and blinkers turned on.

if the lights are blinking-
like with the original poster, i'd suspect a hot wire in the harness at the tilt might be shorting to the flasher/blinker wire. or - the multifunction switch gone bad (which can be tested, see service manual or haynes)

being lazy as i am, i'd probably just start by replacing the flasher.

so issue is fixed.. removed all the trailer harness put new fuses in and everything works. only issue ive had so far is yesterday while driving, my check gauges light came on and my battery gauge dropped to zero. drove it home, turned the truck off and back on, and hasn't happened since. so not sure if I need to worry about it or not.
