Default drag/friction

even when going down hill my truck will slow down. is that normal? planning on doing u joints and bearings anyways. It's optimum speed seem to be about 35-40, rolling with traffic on the highway it like to do 65-70, but with nothing to draft it really slows down.

You think yours is bad. You should drive mine. These things are slightly aerodynamic rolling bricks that weight from 5000-6000lbs. They don't like coasting. I also think the transmissions have something to do with it as sometimes turning OD off will help coasting. You might also think about looking at your front brakes, I had a sticky caliper that caused my truck to slow down more than usual.

i drive in the mountains a lot, I love the engine braking on these trucks! saves a lot of wear and tear on the brakes. i drove a Tahoe which had absolutely no engine braking and i hated it.

Protip: Don't try to hyper-mile these trucks. You are at risk of accidentally dropping the transmission into reversed when it should go into neutral.

Don't ask.

nonsense the tranny should handle it. I love hypermiling. I figured with a 3.55 I wouldn't slow down that much. whats your rearend dodge dude?

Ex. when going down a decent hill at 60 it will readily drop to about 50. Being in D or N doesn't seem to make a difference.

Eh, when I did it, my truck SHUT OFF. So don't make a habit of it. My PS also puked for some reason too.

I have 3.55's. It is starting to sound like you have a sticking caliper or rear shoe(s). My truck coasted much better after re-doing by entire brake system.

If you are slowing going down a hill, I would have a close look at your brakes, and make sure something isn't binding. Even on a flat surface, my truck barely slows when coasting.
